Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about saving, borrowing and managing groups with MyNjangi.

What is MyNjangi?

MyNjangi is a community-based savings mobilisation platform. Groups of members pool contributions in a rotation so every member benefits from the collective fund.

Is MyNjangi free to use?

Yes. Creating an account, creating groups and joining groups are completely free. Only payment-gateway fees or operator charges may apply when moving real money.

How many members can a group have?

A group can have an unlimited number of members. The more members, the larger the pool and the stronger the community safety net.

What is the difference between rotational and investment groups?

Rotational groups pay each member once per cycle until everyone has benefited. Investment groups pool funds without a fixed payout rotation and instead focus on growing the shared balance.

How is the payout order decided?

Before a rotation begins, the group admin runs a transparent random ballot inside the app. The result shows each member's payout position for the cycle.

Can a member borrow from the group?

Yes. Members can request loans and group admins approve, reject and track repayments. Loan terms such as amount, interest and due date are set by the admin.

What happens when a cycle ends?

The member drawn in position 1 receives the cycle's paid contributions as a payout. The admin then advances the group to the next cycle.

What if a member misses a contribution?

Admins can mark payments as late, partial or defaulted. Group rules can also define late fees or penalties.

Is my money safe?

MyNjangi provides bookkeeping, transparency and audit trails. For production deployments, funds should be held through regulated payment providers.

How do reminders work?

Group admins can trigger payment-due reminders and members receive in-app or push notifications before each cycle deadline.

Is video calling really free?

Yes. Group video calls use Jitsi Meet and are restricted to active members of the group.

Can I run more than one group?

Yes. A single account can create or join unlimited groups, each with its own contribution schedule and rules.

Who can see my personal information?

Only the information needed to run a group is shared with other members and admins. Platform staff may access data for support and compliance.

How do I become a platform admin?

Platform admin accounts are created through the terminal command `php artisan njangi:make-admin`. Regular group admins only manage their own groups.
